Trip Advisor review - “Exceeded our expectations...”
...and very family friendly for small children.
When we booked our stay with Sunset Vistas through Travelocity, our criteria was: beach front, must have a kitchen to cook dinner in, and resort must have amenities for small children (ours are 4 and 1 yrs). I must say that we were a little concerned that due to the lower price per night that we would have to make some sacrifices once we arrived. We were pleasantly surprised!
Location: Great location between downtown Treasure Island and John's Pass on Madeira Beach that you can walk to each one. John's Pass is about 1/2 mile to the north and there is a dock area that has several restaurants and jet ski/boat rentals, fishing charters, etc. There is also a sidewalk that runs between the hotel to the south of Sunset Vistas and the downtown area so you can walk along the beach without walking in the sand if you are going out for dinner. Along that same walk, there is a playground for kids at the community beach access about 1/2 mile away.
The Room: It was two full bedrooms and two full baths with a deck that you could see the Gulf. There was a full size kitchen and dining room table so you could make lunch/dinners when you want to reduce some costs. There was dinnerware to accommodate 4 people which worked well for my wife, two young children and I . Stove, dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc. all was just like home.
The Beach: Phenominal... white sand and great for making sand castles with the kids. Plenty of room between the hotel and the gulf so it is not crowded at all. They also have a toy box for families to leave their beach toys that they can't take back on the plane for the next kids to play with. It was empty when we got there but we left a shovel and bucket for the next kid!
The Pool: heated and very clean. It was in the 60's and 70's the week we were there, but swimming was very enjoyable as the water temp was good...
